넣다 VS 놓다

  VS

Korean learners often confuse 넣다 and 놓다 because they both mean 'to put,'

and even their spelling is similar, which makes it even more confusing.😭

Shall we take a closer look at the difference between these two expressions now?

To get straight to the point,

means "to put something inside" (into a space or container)

means "to place or put something down" (on a surface).

1. 넣To Put Inside

Use 넣다 when you’re putting something into a container, bag, or space.

<Examples>

(I put my notebook into my backpack.)

(민준 put some coins into his wallet.)

(제니 put sugar into her coffee.)

(I put my key into my pocket.)

To Place or Put Down

Use 놓다 when you’re placing something on a surface or putting something down to leave it there.

<Examples>

(I place the book on the table.)

(민준 put his coffee on the table.)

(제니 put the box on the floor.)

(I left my glasses on the bed.)

[Fun Tip to Remember]

Doesn’t the vowel 'ㅓ' in '넣다' look like an open shape for putting something inside,
while the vowel 'ㅗ' in '놓다' resembles an object placed on a flat surface? 😂
Thinking of it this way might help you remember the difference!
